OK so I made them today - didn't have salt flakes but a little sprinkle of Italian sea salt worked. I did plain, some with chopped almonds and some with chopped pecans - because they are my favorite nut. :-) My husband thought all 3 were great. I liked the addition of the almonds for the crunch, but then I think every dessert, of any kind, benefits from the addition of nuts. :-) The pecans kind of disappeared - I think they are too soft of a nut for this particular cookie. Oh, and FYI - a bag of butterscotch chips is now 11 oz - it says 1 2/3 cup on the package but pretty much filled my dry measure cup twice.
I can imagine that pecans would disappear, but thanks for testing it out! I’m glad thst all 3 versions were delicious, even if they weren’t all perfect.
Also, the recipe says stir in almonds and butterscotch chips but there is no mention of almonds in the ingredient list. Thank you!! I definitely want to try these!
Darnit! I spent so much time on the story that I didn't proofread the recipe. I took the almonds out of the recipe because the almond extract does the taste trick and I didn't think the cookie needed the extra crunch. Thank you for noticing my error!
It was a lovely story and I am so, so happy for your happy ending. I loved your dad and mom in L.A. Law but I really loved your dad's Books on Italy and memorable meals!! I may add a few chopped almonds to the last part of the batter just to do a comparison. :-)
Happy Anniversary! This photo popped up in my memories
It was a great day. I'm so glad you were there!
Everything about this piece was the best. Including the cookie recipe. Your writing has never been so free and so powerful.
Magnificent.
I'm blushing! Thanks Pop.
This just killed me. Thank you.
Thanks, Mom.

Thank you, Bonnie!

I used to add 1 cup of skinned almond slivers for the whole recipe. Let me know how they turn out!
I have to ask :-) what brand of butterscotch chips do you use?
I’ve only ever been able to find Nestle.
